Impact of hospital pharmacist interventions on the combination of citalopram or escitalopram with other QT-prolonging drugs

Conclusion A high number of hospital prescriptions including citalopram or escitalopram with another QT-prolonging drug occurred, highlighting the importance of involvement of clinical pharmacists in prevention of potential ADRs related to such contraindications.

One of these services is the screening for heart diseases, which are the leading cause of mortality across the world. But the development of telemedicine systems for cardiac screening faces multiple challenges. One of these challenges is the large volume of ECG signals, which makes them difficult to store and transfer. Of the many algorithms pr...

Conclusion: The results of our clinical and simulation experiments demonstrate that localization - f left-ventricular endocardial activation by means of the Bayesian approach, based on sparse representation of sources by EDL, is feasible and accurate. Significance: The proposed approach to localizing endocardial sources may have important applications in pre-procedure assessment of arrhythmias and in guiding their ablation treatment.

AbstractThe sodium pump (Na/K ‐ATPase) is a plasma membrane enzyme that transports Na+ and K+ against their physiological gradients in most eukaryotic cells. Besides pumping ions, the enzyme may also interact with neighboring proteins to activate cell signaling pathways that regulate cell growth. Digitalis drugs, useful for the treatment of heart failure and atrial arrhythmias, inhibit the pumping function of Na/K ‐ATPase and stimulate its signaling function. In the current field of research on the sodium pump and digitalis drugs, some issues that are commonly accepted to be well established are not so, and this may im...

AbstractBackground and ObjectiveRisk-minimization measures (RMM), including label revisions were implemented in Europe for domperidone because of evidence of increased incidence of cardiac arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death.  In accordance with the guideline on good pharmacovigilance practices, the European Medicines Agency Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee requested to conduct two studies to evaluate the effectiveness of these risk minimization measures.MethodsIn Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, and the UK, surveys were conducted to assess physicians ’ knowledge on the updated domperidone l...

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia closely associated with inflammation [1]. AF development involves an array of electrophysiological and structural changes including shortened refractoriness, slow conduction, triggered activity, fibrosis, and enlarged atrial size, etc. as well as dysfunction of multiple ion channel proteins at either transcriptional or posttranslational levels [2]. Multiple canonical inflammatory signaling pathways including tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and ‘NACHT, LRR, and PYD domains-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) infla...

AbstractBackgroundATP provides safe and painless termination of reentrant ventricular arrhythmias in patients with ICDs, improving their quality of life. Established predictors of ATP responsiveness are not well known; only longer VT cycle length and higher ejection fraction have been found to predict ATP success.ObjectiveTo investigate clinical and ECG predictors of antitachycardia pacing (ATP) response in implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) patients with monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT).MethodsThe ICD clinic database was searched for monomorphic VT events requiring ICD therapy in patients with ischemic o...
