Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma in mandibular molar region: A case report

We report a case of ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) in the mandibular molar region. A Japanese boy aged 6 years 8 months visited the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of Osaka University Dental Hospital with dental caries as the chief complaint. Radiography revealed a well-defined homogenous mixed radiopaque mass like dentition above the crown of the mandibular left first molar. At the age of 6 years 9 months, enucleation of the tumor mass was performed under local anesthesia. Based on the histological findings, the diagnosis was AFO. Following enucleation, the left first molar showed a tendency for eruption.

We present the case of an adult patient with cherubism, who underwent dental extraction due to chronic apical periodontitis, at a bony site that was involved with a lesion in the affected jaw. A 19-year-old woman with cherubism, exhibiting severe bilateral expansion of the lower jaw, had a decayed second molar present in a lesion of her affected mandible. Although she had reached adulthood, it was unclear if active growth of the lesion had been arrested. On removal, the tooth showed osseous ankyloses and required root separation. Postoperative healing was normal and without complications, such as wound infection and regrow...

Publication date: Available online 4 December 2019Source: Journal of Herbal MedicineAuthor(s): Farkash Yosi, Feldman Mark, Ginsburg Isaac, Shalish Miriam, Steinberg DoronAbstractDental biofilm is recognized as the primary cause of oral infections, caries being the most common. Orthodontic appliances might increase the risk for dental caries and white spot lesions. Phytomedicinal methods were shown to inhibit dental biofilm formation. The goal of this study was to examine whether Padma hepaten (PH), a polyphenolic formula derived from traditional Tibetan medicine, could inhibit the caries-inducing properties of S. mutans. B...

Abstract Aims: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a group of calcium-dependent zinc-containing proteinases acting both physiologically and in pathological conditions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentration of MMP-2, MMP-8, and MMP-9 and their inhibitors TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 of unstimulated whole saliva (UWS) in correlation with the oral health in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) children. Methods: The study population comprised 34 JIA patients and 34 age- and sex-matched controls (C). They were divided into two groups: with mixed dentition (MD) and with permanent dentition (PD). Dental cari...

Abstract The present study aimed at investigating the influence of norspermidine on the formation of dual-species biofilms composed of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) and Streptococcus sanguinis (S. sanguinis). Crystal violet assay was conducted to assess the formation of single-species biofilms of S. mutans and S. sanguinis, and the growth curve was carefully observed to monitor the growth of these two species of bacteria. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and MTT array were used to analyze the composition and metabolic activity of the dual-species biofilms, respectively. Extracellular polysaccharides (E...

(University of Dundee) Three-year trial comparing three treatment strategies for tooth decay in children's teeth finds no evidence to suggest that conventional fillings are more successful than sealing decay into teeth, or using preventive methods alone. 43% of those participating in the study experienced toothache or dental infection regardless of the treatment received. FiCTION is the largest study of its kind to date; with 1,144 children, their parents, and 72 NHS dental clinics in the UK involved.
