We report that preadipocyte differentiation increased the abundance of mRNA levels of proteins related to adipogenesis and lipid metabolism. These changes in the transcriptome were absent or less pronounced in fat cells obtained from patients with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. Meanwhile, mRNA levels of proteins involved in excellular matrix remodeling, angiogenesis and cytoskeleton organization were less abundant in adipocytes of all metabolic groups.
In this study, we explored the association between miR-204 and β-cell dysfunction, the therapeutic effects of berberine (BBR) on β-cell function and the possible mechanisms. We found that miR-204 increased and SIRT1 mRNA and protein levels decreased significantly in islets both in vivo and in vitro. Men and women have different type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risks, which have been reported across populations of different ethnicity. Where differences in T2DM risk for sex (biological) have been studied, research on gender (socio-cultural) and T2DM risk is lacking. We explored, in a multi-ethnic population, the association of six gender-related characteristics with incident T2DM over 3 years, and the mediation by known risk factors for T2DM.
ConclusionsSupervised ML is an innovative tool for the development of new methods to exploit large health administrative databases. In context of InfAct project, we have developed and applied the first time a generic ML-algorithm to estimate the incidence of diabetes for public health surveillance. The ML-algorithm we have developed, has a moderate performance. The next step is to apply this algorithm on SNDS to estimate the incidence of type 2 diabetes cases. More research is needed to apply various MLTs to estimate the incidence of various health conditions.
