SundinAbstractDue to rapid expansion of organic apple production and issues with antibiotic resistance in conventional production, there is a need for novel strategies to protect orchards from outbreaks of fire blight caused by the bacterial pathogen Erwinia amylovora. The biological control material, Blossom Protect (consisting of two strains of the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans), has shown promising results in some apple growing regions but has shown reduced efficacy in...

ConclusionVarious parameters contribute to the impact of DIWs disinfection performance in practice. The interaction between disinfectant active ingredients and the wiping materials barricades their broad application in hospitals. More studies of the DIWs ’ disinfection efficacy in clinical practice are in need. Current standards evaluating the DIWs’ efficacy are required to improve for more realistic condition simulation and differentiating between mechanical removal of inoculum from a surface and chemical inactivation of the test microbe.

ConclusionTo successfully control the outbreak a customized bundled approach was necessary. Current guidelines should be adapted to be suitable for all types of residential care homes and to effectively combat the spread of multi resistant pathogens.

Authors: Foresto RD, Santos DWCL, Hazin MAA, Leyton ATZ, Tenório NC, Viana LA, Cristelli MP, Silva Júnior HT, Pestana JOM Abstract In 2004, a global spread of Chikungunya fever affected most tropical and subtropical regions of the world. In 2016, an outbreak occurred in Northeast Brazil with hundreds of cases documented. Solid organ transplant recipients have a modified immune response to infection and the clinical course is usually different from immunocompetent patients. The diagnosis can be challenging in this population. Most reports describe patients residing in endemic areas, although we must em...

We read with interest the recent research article by Wang Ligui et al. studying the epidemic characteristics of the 2014 dengue outbreak in Guangdong Province, China.1 Dengue has recently emerged or re-emerged in many countries worldwide with the number of cases and the range of the virus increasing annually. Taiwan has experienced two large dengue outbreaks in the recent decade with high morbidity and mortality noted. Reports from Taiwan Center for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) indicated that the major dengue epidemics occurred in the south of Taiwan, mainly in the two southern cities of Tainan and Kaohsiung.
