Authors: Musio F Abstract INTRODUCTION: Anemia has and will continue to be a central theme in medicine particularly as clinicians are treating a burgeoning population of complex multi-organ system processes. As a result of multiple randomized controlled trials (RCTs), meta-analyses, and societal recommendations overly restrictive paradigms and under-administration of erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESAs) have likely been followed by clinicians among all specialties. AREAS COVERED: A review of anemia in the context of chronic kidney disease, hematologic malignancies and cancer is presented with focus on the e...

Conclusion: Taken together, lncRNA OIP5-AS1 acted as a ceRNA to drive proliferation, migration and invasion of HemECs through regulating miR-195-5p/NOB1 axis. Introduction Infant hemangioma (IH) is a benign neoplasm commonly seen in childhood, which is more common in premature infants and infants with low birth weight (Smith et al., 2017). There are three distinct clinical histological stages in IH: the early proliferative stage, when undeveloped blood vessels are rapidly growing; plateau stage and final regressive stage, with scattered capillaries and large drainage vessels (Csoma et al., 2017). IH is characterize...

In MPP-Pt complex, the Pt(II) ion adopts a four-coordinated square planar geometry. MPP-Pt exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human carcinoma (A549), hepatoblastoma (Hep-G2), ovarian (SK-OV-3), cervical (HeLa) and gastric adenocarcinoma (MGC80–3) ce...

Authors: Li WJ, Lian YW, Guan QS, Li N, Liang WJ, Liu WX, Huang YB, Cheng Y, Luo H Abstract Liver-targeted drug delivery improves the efficacy of anti-liver cancer agents and reduces systemic toxicity by limiting the bioavailability of these drugs to within tumors. Liver targeting reagents with galactose residues, which selectively combine to asialoglyco protein receptors, have previously been used to improve liposome-encapsulated drug accumulation within liver cells. They lead to a reduction in liver cancer cell growth and have been used to cure certain hepatic diseases. In the present study, curcumol, which is th...

Abstract Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is a hereditary condition with a near 100 % lifetime risk of colorectal cancer without prophylactic colectomy. Most patients with FAP have a mutation in the adenomatous polyposis coli gene on chromosome 5q22. This condition frequently presents in children with polyps developing most frequently in the second decade of life and surveillance colonoscopy is required starting at age ten. Polyps are found not only in the colon, but in the stomach and duodenum. Knowledge of the natural history of FAP is important as there are several extra-colonic sequelae which also req...

Conclusion The hepatoblastoma of the adult is related to a poor prognosis with median survival time less than 5 months. Surgery is the only curative treatment, but in many cases tumor resection requires complex operations. Vascular and thoracic expertise could be useful in the management of hepatoblastoma.
