Conflicts of Interest —Mitigating Their Impact

Conflicts of interest (CoIs) have always existed.  Few, if any of us, have no CoIs. This is because most people naturally seek things in our own best interests. This includes the interests of our family, employer, business, and organization and of other entities we hope succeed and even prosper. Conflicts with those personal interests can arise w hen we are in certain positions. These include decision-making roles, situations in which what we present may persuade others on the decisions they make, or other circumstances in which our actions or inactions may conflict with the best interests of others. Occasionally, our own interests and thos e of others are not automatically in conflict.
