Survival comparison in gastric cancer patients between 7th and 8th edition of the AJCC TNM staging system: The first western single center experience

ConclusionRestaging system seems to improve survival rate discrimination in particular comparing stage IIIB and stage IIIC; whereas in stage IIIA this is not so clear.More studies are necessary to confirm these data.

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review was undertaken to survey recent literature for research reports and comprehensive clinical reviews addressing the pharmacologic management of nausea and vomiting (N&V) in advanced cancer. The goal was to integrate findings in a comprehensive article that incorporates palliative care concepts into antiemetic treatment.Recent FindingsThere are few published studies of N&V in advanced cancer; such research may be limited by the multicausal nature of N&V and participant burden to patients with life-limiting disease. Most articles are written by oncologists who also specialize in palliative ...

AbstractWith the length of about 26 –31 nt, PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA) is a small non-coding RNA (ncRNA) that interacts with PIWI proteins to form the piRNA silencing complex (piRISC). PIWI is a subfamily of Argonaute, and piRNA must bind to PIWI to exert its regulatory role. Current studies indicated that piRNA and PIWI are sign ificantly abnormally expressed in gastric, breast, kidney, colon, and lung cancers, and are involved in the initiation, progression, and metastasis of cancers, which may be the potential diagnostic tools, prognostic markers, and therapeutic targets for cancers. By reviewing piRNA rece...

ConclusionsLong-term OS in Indian patients in non-metastatic GC with EOX chemotherapy and D2 lymphadenectomy is similar to previously published Western data. Younger Indian patients fare worse than their older counterparts and this needs further evaluation.

Conclusions: Overall, we propose that the four hub genes may be potential targets in trastuzumab-resistant gastric cancer and that ISGs may play a key role in promoting trastuzumab resistance in GC. PMID: 31949544 [PubMed - in process]

This study provides strong evidence that following a healthy lifestyle can substantially extend the years a person lives disease-free." Commentary on Recent Evidence for Cognitive Decline to Precede Amyloid Aggregation in Alzheimer's Disease I can't say that I think the data presented in the research noted here merits quite the degree of the attention that it has been given in the popular science press. It is interesting, but not compelling if its role...

Authors: Annibale B, Esposito G, Lahner E Abstract SUMMARYIntroduction: Atrophic gastritis (AG) is a complex syndrome which arise as consequence of H. pylori infection or in the context of gastric autoimmunity. It often deserves a benign course, but may lead to potentially life-threatening complications: cancer and anaemia. This review aims to address traditional and innovative knowledge on this often under-diagnosed disorder.Areas covered: This review covers clinical presentation, risk factors, diagnosis and management of AG and provides an updated resource for clinicians to get insight in this challenging disorde...

Authors: Yin W, Zhong G, Fan H, Xia H Abstract Fluorouracil (5-FU) and oxaliplatin (L-OHP) are the most commonly used chemotherapy drugs for colorectal cancer, though resistance is common. Compound Sophora injection is a traditional Chinese medicine that can protect the liver against oxidation, improve immunity, and enhance sensitivity to chemotherapy; it may have an effect of reversing resistance in 5-FU- and L-OHP-resistant gastric cancer cells (5-FU/SW480 and L-OHP/SW480, respectively). A concentration gradient experiment was performed to identify a nontoxic dose of compound Sophora injection. 5-FU/SW480 and L-O...
