Al-KhatibAbstractMyocarditis is a major cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in young adults. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is the established tool for the diagnosis of myocarditis, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) detected on CMR imaging is the strongest independent predictor of SCD, all-cause mortality, and cardiac mortality. Several other factors have been associated with SCD or cardiac transplantation including New York Heart Association functiona...

CONCLUSION: ECMO is an important life support method for patients before and after heart transplantation surgery. Obesity, poor preoperative cardiac function, and considerable intraoperative red blood cell transfusion may influence prognosis. Extracardiac compression before ECMO is an independent risk factor for prognosis. PMID: 31410515 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Contributor : Jessica ChangSeries Type : Expression profiling by arrayOrganism : Homo sapiensWe previously reported a microarray-based diagnostic system for heart transplant endomyocardial biopsies (EMBs), using either 3-archetype (3AA) or 4-archetype (4AA) unsupervised algorithms to estimate rejection. The present study aimed to examine the stability of machine-learning algorithms in new biopsies, compare 3AA vs. 4AA algorithms, assess supervised binary classifiers trained on histologic or molecular diagnoses, create a report combining many scores into an ensemble of estimates, and examine possible automated sign-outs. Al...

We now investigate the efficacy of delayed mitochondrial transplantation (MT) via intracoronary administration in a model of regional IRI as a strategy for cardioprotection.MethodsFemale Yorkshire pigs (40-50 kg; n=16)...

A drug developed by UCLA physician-scientists and chemists speeds up the regeneration of mouse and human blood stem cells after exposure to radiation. If the results can be replicated in humans, the compound could help people recover quicker from chemotherapy, radiation and bone marrow transplants. The study, published in Nature Communications, also sheds light on the basic biology behind blood stem cell regeneration and the role of a specific molecular process that is blocked by the new drug. Blood stem cells reside in the bone marrow and produce all of the body ’s blood and immune cells.“We’re very excite...

It is believed that TCM enhances the effect of stem cell therapy by improving the hostile microenvironment and promoting the migration and survival of stem cells. Guanxin Danshen (GXDS) formulation is one of the main prescriptions for cl...
