Safety of Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy in Patients With COPD: Results From the NAVIGATE Study
Conclusion: In this analysis, complication rates following ENB procedures were not increased in patients with COPD or poor pulmonary function. Because pneumothorax risk is not elevated, ENB may be the preferred method to biopsy peripheral lung lesions in patients with COPD and/or poor pulmonary function testing.
Authors: Sánchez-Villegas P, Cabrera-León A, Gil García E Abstract OBJECTIVE: To describe the association between the Neighborhood Walkability and mortality. METHOD: Ecological study of small areas. The standardized mortality ratios (SMR) and the Walk Score© were calculated in each census tract. These values were compared with parametric and nonparametric tests. RESULTS: For men, in the case of ischemic diseases, the means of the SMR for the categories with the highest walkability and the least were 1.03 and 0.85 (p

This study seeks to evaluate the use of CR in children with bronchiolitis due to a lower respiratory tract infection (RSV-RTI) with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and the influence of CR on patient treatment during the 2010-2017 seasons. There were 581 children included into the study: 459 with bronchiolitis (390 RSV-RTI and 69 non-RSV), 65 with RSV pneumonia and 57 with RSV bronchitis. We found that CR was performed in 28.6% (166/581) patients. CR was much more frequent in patients with RSV than non-RSV infections (61% vs. 31%). CR prognostic sensitivity and specificity in guiding antibiotic treatment was low, 78% and ...
The implementation of test-and-treat policies that recommend early initiation of ART may help curb the spread of HIV.HIV Medicine
CONCLUSIONS: Although ART scale-up was temporally associated with a decline in TB notification rates, the achieved rates of decline are below those required to achieve the End TB Targets. Additional investments in tuberculosis control should include efforts to promote earlier care seeking and ART initiation among HIV-positive persons. PMID: 31529618 [PubMed - in process]
CONCLUSIONS: A formalized step-wise approach to including pregnant women in antiretroviral drug research should become the new norm. Systematic implementation of this approach would yield more timely and higher quality pregnancy dosing, safety and efficacy data. Through more vigorous action, regulatory bodies could responsibly overcome reluctance to include pregnant women in drug trials. Funders, researchers and programme implementers need to be galvanized to progressively include pregnant women in research - the use of newer, more effective drugs in women is at stake (349). ConclusionThe widespread availability and recommendation of synthetic compounds for addressing human health have several side effects besides higher costs. Hence, examining natural bioactive compounds is imperative. This review investigates and presents the pertinent information on cardamom and its traditional uses, as well as potential pharmacological properties of CEO and extracts. Additional research studies are needed to understand the mechanism of action of bioactive constituents.Graphical abstract

It constitutes an efficient first line of defense of the respiratory tract against a large panel of inhaled substances. Upon injury, regeneration of this epithelium through proliferation and differentiation events can restore a proper muc...
