Antunes, Denzil R. BeukesAbstractThe endemic South African red seaweed Plocamium maxillosum (Poiret) Lamouroux produces two unusual isomeric dichlorinated cyclohexenone monoterpenes, plaxenone A and B (1 and 2). The structures of the isolated compounds were determined from spectroscopic data and their absolute configuration was determined by comparison of the experimental and calculated ECD spectra. Compounds 1 and 2 inhibit the growth of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells.Graphical abstract
