Osteosarcoma: a report of 2 cases with similar radiographic features

DiscussionWidening of the PDL space is an important finding associated with malignant disease and may occur with sarcomas and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. 2,5 Widening of the PDL space was identified in nearly half the osteosarcoma cases reported by Fernandes et al.2 The combination of PDL widening, sclerotic bone pattern with bone formation, and higher incidence of osteosarcoma compared with chondrosarcoma can be used to identify osteosarcoma cases radiographically.

Authors: Xu W, Lou Y, Chen W, Kang Y Abstract Effective cancer therapy usually requires the assistance of well-designed drug carriers. In order to increase the drug accumulation to tumor tissue as well as to reduce the side effects of drug carriers, the hybrid drug delivery system (DDS) was developed by integrating folic acid (FA) and a metal-organic framework (MOF). The anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) was preloaded into the MOF nanoparticles during the synthesis process of the MOF nanoparticles. After surface modification with FA, the resulting FA/MOF/DOX nanoparticles were capable of serving as a biocompatible ...

ConclusionsPhysicians should be alert of this tumor despite its rarity because diagnostic delays increase mortality. In this report, we summarize the features that differentiate PPAS from PE and the importance of imaging in diagnosing the tumor.

This article reports segmental absence of tracheal cartilage rings in a kitten. An 8-month-old female kitten was presented with a history of weight loss and respiratory distress for 2 months. Radiographs of the thorax demonstrated a large air-filled sac suggestive of pneumomediastinum. No cartilaginous structures were evident radiographically over the caudal portion of the trachea. At necropsy examination, approximately 2 cm from the carina, a 3 cm segment of the trachea lacked cartilaginous rings. The clinical and morphological features of this lesion were similar to those described in human and canine cases of ...

Publication date: Available online 12 October 2019Source: Pathology - Research and PracticeAuthor(s): Kun Chen, Guobiao PanAbstractMicroRNA-106a-5p (miR-106a-5p) functions as a tumor suppressor in osteosarcoma cells. Here, we aimed to identify novel target genes of miR-106a-5p in osteosarcoma, as well as to investigate their prognostic value and the biological functions. At first, the mammalian runt-related factor 1 (RUNX1) was identified as one of the target genes of miR-106a-5p in osteosarcoma cells by luciferase reporter gene assay, real-time quantitative RT-PCR and Western blot analysis. Then, the expression levels of ...

This study aimed to explore the effect of a circular RNA (circRNA), circ_0102049, on OS and reveal its potential molecular mechanism. In this work, the expression of circ_0102049 was detected by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-RCR) in both OS specimens and cell lines. The relationship between circ_0102049 level and patientsÔ┐┐ overall survival was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression analysis. Cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion of U2OS and MG63 cells were measured by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), flow cytometry, wound healing and transwell experiments, respectively. In...

ConclusionsExtra-pelvic endometriosis, traditionally thought to be rare, have been reported in a considerable number of cases. Heightened awareness and clinical suspicion of the disease, and multi-disciplinary approach is recommended to achieve prompt diagnosis and optimize patient outcomes. At this time, there are no comparative studies to provide recommendations regarding optimal diagnostic methods, treatment options and outcomes for endometriosis involving extra-pelvic sites.

ConclusionsGVS appeared as a well-tolerated and powerful procedure for the relief of experimental pain, probably through physiological interaction within insular nociceptive networks. Either isolated or in combination with other types of vestibular activation (e.g., optokinetic stimuli), GVS deserves being tested in clinical settings.

We report the case of a 17-year-old patient with recurrent hemorrhagic pericardial effusion, who was diagnosed with primary pericardial fibrosarcoma. However, multiple radiological examinations, including CT and [18F] FDG/PET-CT, suggested the presence of fluid and no sign of tumor. Actually, when a patient presents with recurrent hemorrhagic pericardial effusions, pericardial tumors must be taken into account as part of the differential diagnosis.
