Long-term outcomes for patients with desmoid fibromatosis treated with radiation therapy: a 10-year update and re-evaluation of the role of radiation therapy for younger patients

Management of desmoid tumors is challenging. In the current study, we report long-term outcomes of patients treated for desmoid fibromatosis using radiation therapy. We confirmed a high rate of relapse among young patients using a larger cohort than prior studies. We observed the greatest risk for patients ≤ 30 years of age independent of local treatment strategy. These data highlight the need for risk-adapted treatment decisions and confirm the need for patient management at expert multidisciplinary referral centers.
