Publication date: 2018Source: Materials Today: Proceedings, Volume 5, Issue 11, Part 3Author(s): M. Ananthu, M. Shamnadh, P.N. DileepAbstractThe main aim of the present work was to study the role of seashell nanoparticles on the wear resistance and mechanical properties of PMMA seashell bionanocomposite. About 5%, 10%, and 15% of Seashell nanopowder as filler material was added to PMMA. The seashell nanopowder sizes were taken as 322nm, 490nm and 613nm. After fabricating PMMA seashell bionanocomposite specimens of different filler size and filler percentage, wear test and microhardness test were conducted. It was observed that the hardness and wear resistance properties of bionanocomposites were enhanced, by adding seashell nanopowder on suitable weight percentage to PMMA matrix.
