Bariatric Surgery improves Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Contemporary Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

The epidemic of obesity in Western countries is accompanied by a dramatic increase in the prevalence of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) in both adults and adolescents [1]. The prevalence of NAFLD is projected to increase to 33.5% among adults by 2030; consequently the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma and liver related deaths are estimated to increase by 137% and 178% respectively, in the same time frame [2].
