Preventive Medicine in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is increasing worldwide. The therapeutic options available to our patients are also increasing. These therapies offer patients the prospect of clinical and endoscopic remission, as well as improved quality of life. However, the management of IBD has become complex, including identification of specific risks associated with IBD and its therapies. The provider needs to consider forms of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in his or her management of patients with IBD in order to prevent complications.
