CONCLUSIONS: Bladder-sparing treatment is an option for patients with bladder cancer. Those who may benefit most are those with solitary invasive cancers, those with good bladder capacity and compliance, those who choose to preserve their bladder and sexual function and who are not fit for RC. Multimodal bladder- sparing approaches may have comparable oncological outcomes to RC and so appear an attractive alternative in suitable patients. PMID: 30895765 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Publication date: Available online 20 March 2019Source: Urology Case ReportsAuthor(s): Fumio Ishizaki, Ryo Maruyama, Kazutoshi Yamana, Takashi Kasahara, Tsutomu Nishiyama, Yoshihiko TomitaAbstractWe herein report an unusual case of brain metastasis from prostate cancer during androgen deprivation therapy and post-docetaxel and definitive local therapy. The brain metastasis was surgically resected followed by Whole-brain radiation therapy. Postoperatively, his PSA again decreased to an undetectable level and remained undetectable with no evidence of new or recurrent disease.

ConclusionThis case highlights the importance of using caution when combining radiation with the new targeted therapies. Until more data becomes available, physicians are recommended to exercise clinical judgment when deciding on whether to continue or discontinue a CDK4/6 inhibitor in a patient who may need radiation.

Conclusion: Early structural change analysis using radiomic features may contribute to predict postradiotherapy fracture in Pca patients. These features can be identified as being potentially important imaging biomarkers for predicting radiotherapy-induced femoral changes.

AbstractBackgroundThe impact of different radiotherapy modalities on the development and characteristics of second primary bladder cancers (BCa) and BCa-specific mortality (BCa-SM) remains unclear. Thus, we evaluated the incidence and biological behavior of subsequent BCa and related survival in patients who underwent radiation therapy for prostate cancer (PCa).MethodsA total of 530,581 patients in the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results database with localized PCa between 1988 and 2013 were identified. PCa treatments included radical prostatectomy (RP), external beam radiotherapy (EBRT), radioactive implants (RI),...

Authors: Mougeot JC, Stevens CB, Almon KG, Paster BJ, Lalla RV, Brennan MT, Mougeot FB Abstract Head and neck cancer (HNC) therapy often leads to caries development. Our goal was to characterize the oral microbiome of HNC patients who underwent radiation therapy (RT) at baseline (T0), and 6 (T6) and 18 (T18) months post-RT, and to determine if there was a relationship with increased caries. HOMINGS was used to determine the relative abundance (RA) of>600 bacterial species in oral samples of 31 HNC patients. The DMFS score was used to define patient groups with tooth decay increase (DMFS[+]) or no increase (...
