Uncertainty Quantification of a Multiscale Model for In-Stent Restenosis

ConclusionThe model output contains a moderate quantity of uncertainty, and the model precision can be increased by obtaining a more certain value on the endothelium regeneration time. We conclude that the quasi-Monte Carlo UQ and the Sobol SA are reliable methods for estimating uncertainties in the response of complicated multiscale cardiovascular models.

In this study we investigated the role of endogenous TSPO in neointima formation after angioplasty in vitro and in vivo. We established a vascular injury model in vitro by using platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) to stimulate rat thoracic aortic smooth muscle cells (A10 cells). We found that treatment with PDGF-BB (1-20 ng/mL) dose-dependently increased TSPO expression in A10 cells, which was blocked in the presence of PKC inhibitor or MAPK inhibitor. Overexpression of TSPO significantly promoted the proliferation and migration in A10 cells, whereas downregulation of TSPO expression by siRNA or treatment wi...

AbstractPurpose of reviewPaclitaxel-based endovascular devices have become the standard of care in symptomatic, medication-refractory peripheral artery disease (PAD) and in critical limb ischemia (CLI). This review examines the data on the efficacy and safety of these devices relative to standard balloon angioplasty (PTA) and bare metal stents (BMS).Recent findingsRandomized controlled trials (RCTs) have found that peripheral devices coated with paclitaxel result in superior patency rates and decreased target lesion revascularization (TLR) compared with non-drug-coated devices. Recently, a meta-analysis of randomized contr...

Authors: Minatsuki S, Hatano M, Maki H, Takimoto E, Morita H, Komuro I Abstract Current therapeutic methods for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) can improve hemodynamic status and are expected to improve prognoses. However, some patients experience dyspnea during effort and continue supplemental oxygenation despite their hemodynamic status being fully improved. Considering the pathogenesis of CTEPH, the dead space and intrapulmonary shunt are assumed to be responsible for hypoxia in CTEPH, but their contributions are unclear. It is also unclear whether they are improved after treatment. The aim...

This article describes less-invasive endovascular alternatives, such as atherectomy, drug-coated balloons and stenting, and their results. The popliteal artery is also difficult to treat in an endovascular manner due to biomechanical forces during bending and stretching of the knee or leg. Thus, we also describe currently available minimally invasive treatment options for the popliteal artery. PMID: 31476793 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Concept Medical’s MagicTouch AVF might have the “magic touch” when it comes down to nabbing breakthrough device designations. The proposed indication for the latest breakthrough device designation is for the treatment of stenotic lesions of Arteriovenous Fistulae or Arteriovenous graft in the hemodialysis treatment of renal failure. Concept Medical said its first pilot study to investigate the safety and efficacy of Magic Touch PTA Sirolimus balloon was started in Singapore in 2018. Led by Principal Investigator, Dr. Tan Chieh Suai, a multi-disciplinary team of doctors ...

This study intended to assess effectiveness and safety of the drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty of infrapopliteal atherosclerotic lesions in patients with critical limb ischaemia (CLI) in a real-world setting.MethodsConsecutive patients with critical limb ischaemia who underwent infrapopliteal drug-coated balloon angioplasty with the ELUTAX SV DCB were enrolled into the prospective, multicentre, single-arm observational registry. Primary outcome was clinical improvement at 6 and 12  months. Secondary outcomes were change in quality of life, primary patency, freedom from repeat revascularisation, and amputation-fre...
