A case of steroid-resistance Hashimoto's encephalopathy presenting with sensorimotor polyneuropathy.

We report a case of steroid-resistance HE with sensorimotor polyneuropathy, as a rare presentation of this disorder. Our case showed that HE may present with sensorimotor polyneuropathy; therefore HE should be considered in the differential diagnoses of polyneuropathy. PMID: 30511545 [PubMed - in process]

Discussion-Local manifestations of snake bite are soft-tissue swelling from edema, necrosis, and hemorrhage. Common long-term sequelae of envenomation is soft-tissue atrophy distal to the bite, particularly in the digits.-Systemic signs and symptoms after a venomous snake bite are due to anticoagulant/procoagulant activity or neurotoxicity. Cerebral hypoxia can occur due to hypotensive shock that may accompany some snake bite envenomations. Neuromuscular disorders with damage of the peripheral nervous system can with blockage of synaptic transmission, at either presynaptic or postsynaptic levels.Common neuro...

We report a previously undescribed noninflammatory vasculopathy causing multifocal intracranial arterial occlusions and cerebral infarctions in a man following allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for chronic lymphocytic leukemia, which we propose to be a central nervous system manifestation of graft versus host disease.

This study aimed to determine the body mass index (BMI) of fatal stroke cases amongst young adults, their clinical characteristics and the association with BMI with risk factors. All cases aged 15-44 years where death was attributed to stroke for whom BMI was available were retrieved from the National Coronial Information System (1/1/2009-31/12/2016). 179 cases were identified: haemorrhagic (165), ischaemic (5), thrombotic (6), mycotic (3), embolic (0). Proportions in each BMI category were: underweight (5.6%), normal weight (37.4%), overweight (27.4%), obese (29.6%). There was a significant linear trend in the proportion ...

Systemic vasculitis, which can involve the brain, may be one of the causes of stroke in young adults; therefore, a test panel for systemic vasculitis is considered for some young stroke patients. However, little is known about this test ’s yield as a screening test in young adults with ischemic stroke. We evaluated the yield of a panel for systemic vasculitis as a screening test in young patients with ischemic stroke. Consecutive patients aged 18–45 years with ischemic stroke between January 2010 and December 2017 were included . They all underwent screening tests for systemic vasculitis including rheumatoid fa...
