Exploring Moffitt's developmental taxonomy of conduct disorder: An epidemiological study of childhood predictors and adult outcomes of ‘life course persistent’ and ‘adolescence limited’ conduct disorder

Background: Moffitt's (1993) developmental taxonomy of conduct disorder (CD) defines two CD subgroups: life-course persistent (LCP) and adolescence limited (AL). LCP CD is characterized by childhood onset with symptoms persisting into adulthood. AL CD is characterized by adolescent onset with symptoms desisting by adulthood. According to Moffitt, LCP CD stems from early childhood factors, whereas LCP CD stems from the adolescent environment. Moffitt also states that those with LCP CD have a lower quality of life in adulthood relative to those with AL CD.
