Impact of preeclampsia on birth outcomes and long-term neurobehavioral dysfunction

Background: Preeclampsia is a common ailment unique to pregnancy characterized by hypertension and proteinuria. The etiology of this heterogeneous disorder is little understood, resulting in great difficulty in designing effective intervention strategies for both mother and baby. Additionally, the scope and severity of the impact of preeclampsia on birth outcomes and infant development are similarly elusive. The current study aims to investigate the impact of maternal preeclampsia on preterm labor, APGAR scores, low birth weight, and early neurobehavioral outcomes, and explores the potential use of these measures as early markers for infants at risk of neurological dysfunction later in childhood.
