Viscoelasticity measurement of ex vivo bovine cartilage using Lamb wave method.
This study validates the use of the LWM for measuring the viscoelasticity of ex vivo cartilage and provides a critical step toward the ultimate goal of measuring the viscoelasticity of cartilage in vivo. PMID: 30484437 [PubMed - in process]
Discussion/conclusionThe study hypothesis was confirmed: there were no differences according to primary versus secondary osteoarthritis in preoperative profile or results. Elbow osteoarthritis entails mechanical impingement. Arthroscopic debridement gave good results independently of primary or post-traumatic etiology.Level of evidenceIII, prospective comparative observational multicenter cohort study.
Conclusions: OA-related models of cartilage stress reveal multiple mechanisms by which glutathione provides oxidative stress resistance and resilience. PMID: 31522568 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

MicroRNA‑34a‑3p inhibits proliferation of rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast‑like synoviocytes. Mol Med Rep. 2019 Jul 23;: Authors: Hou C, Wang D, Zhang L Abstract Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory joint disease characterized by synovial inflammation. Fibroblast‑like synoviocytes (FLS) serve a vital role in the initiation and perpetuation of the immune response in patients with RA. The present study aimed to investigate the potential role of microRNA (miR)‑34a‑3p in the pathogenesis of RA. FLS were collected from patients with RA and osteoarthritis (OA). The miR‑34a‑3p mi...
RheumPAC is the ACR’s non-partisan political action committee, which promotes the needs of rheumatology providers and patients. Advocacy efforts often focus on legislation to improve the day-to-day clinical care of rheumatology patients, such as establishing clinical exceptions to step therapy requirements and reforming the prior authorization process. In addition, the ACR and RheumPAC recognize the... [Read More]
Authors: Chen YJ, Chang WA, Wu LY, Huang CF, Chen CH, Kuo PL Abstract Synovitis in osteoarthritis (OA) the consequence of low grade inflammatory process caused by cartilage breakdown products that stimulated the production of pro-inflammatory mediators by fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS). FLS participate in joint homeostasis and low grade inflammation in the joint microenvironment triggers FLS transformation. In the current study, we aimed to identify differentially expressed genes and potential miRNA regulations in human OA FLS through deep sequencing and bioinformatics approaches. The 245 differentially express...
This study aimed to compare the efficacy of eccentrically focused resistance exercise (ECC RT) to concentrically focused resistance exercise (CNC RT) on knee osteoarthritis (OA) symptoms and strength. Methods Ninety participants consented. Participants were randomized to CNC RT, ECC RT, or a wait-list, no-exercise control group. Four months of supervised exercise training was completed using traditional weight machines (CNC RT) or modified-matched machines that overloaded the eccentric action (ECC RT). Main outcomes included one-repetition maximal strength (knee extension, leg flexion, and leg press), weekly rate of str...
