Understanding the Last Days and Hours of Life Using Narrative Inquiry: Stories of Family and Friends

This presentation reports findings from a qualitative research study that aims to better understand peoples' experiences of the last days and hours of life. Dying people and their families often express a great deal of uncertainty about this time. People worry about what the dying process will actually look like, and what will happen to them and to their loved ones. For this project, friends and families of people having died within the last five years were invited to share their experiences. The project was designed to generate narrative evidence that can speak back directly to the uncertainty that characterizes the last days and hours of life.
