Effect of Aging and Predonation Comorbidities on the Related Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donor Experience: Report from the Related Donor Safety Study

Over the past decade registries such as the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) have published detailed data describing the unrelated donor (URD) experience, identifying individuals at increased risk for pain and collection-related symptoms, slower recovery, need for placement of a central venous line (CVL), and severe adverse events [1 –6]. In spite of the fact that roughly half of allogeneic hematopoietic cell donations come from related donors (RDs), data describing details of early toxicities and longer-term outcomes in these individuals are scarce, with only 1 large study focusing mainly on severe adverse events [7].
