CONCLUSION: Short-term treatment with an oral metformin significantly reduced a proliferative marker Ki-67 index in women with endometrioid EC awaiting surgical staging. This study supports the biological effect of metformin in EC and potential applications in the adjuvant treatment in EC patients. PMID: 32212801 [PubMed - in process]

This study was designed to measure retinal perfusion density changes on optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography and OCT thickness alterations associated with acutely increased IOP after intravitreal injections. Methods: Retrospective observational clinical study of 40 eyes (39 patients) with various retinopathies from October 2016 to June 2017 at a tertiary care retina clinic in NYC. Patients were older than 18 years, with vision>20/100, able to fixate and without media opacities precluding OCT angiography, receiving intravitreal bevacizumab or aflibercept for diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, macu...

Authors: Stattin M, Forster J, Ahmed D, Haas AM, Graf A, Krepler K, Ansari-Shahrezaei S Abstract Purpose: To evaluate 7-year visual and anatomical outcomes of intravitreal injections (IVI) with antivascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) based on a personalized pro re nata (PRN) regimen. Methods: Anonymized data of 124 consecutive eyes in 121 patients with treatment-naïve nAMD were initially collected in 2010. Of those, 45 received anti-VEGF IVI at least every 6months until 2017 in one single center in Austria and hence were retrospectively ana...

In this study, we aimed to figure out the relationship between DGP and autophagy of ICCs. Methods: Sixty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into normal control group (NC, 10) and modeling group (50). Rats in the modeling group were injected 2% streptozotocin (STZ) and fed with high-glucose and high-fat diet for 8 weeks in order to establish DGP rat model. After modeling, 30 successfully modeled rats were randomly selected and separated into diabetic gastroparesis group (DGP, 10), GDP rats with electroacupuncture group (EA, 10), and GDP rats with metoclopramide group (MP, 10). When the intervention was compl...

This study investigated the effects of human umbilical-cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUMSCs) injection on diabetic rat model. The results show that the level of MIAT is significantly decreased in the diabetic retina after the injection of HUMSCs. Moreover, HUMSCs can significantly decrease the expression of IL-1β and IL-6 mRNA; alleviate microvascular permeability, and upregulate Occludin expression. Studies have shown that MIAT knockdown could alleviate diabetes-induced inflammation responses and vascular leakage. Furthermore, our findings also showed that the expression of MIAT was positively correlated with the expr...

ConclusionsThese findings demonstrated that DPO treatment does not affect the revascularization of transplanted islets. However, the glycoprotein increases the blood volume flow of the grafts, which results in an improved microvascular function and may facilitate successful transplantation.
