Is Diet the Best Prevention Strategy for Dementia?

A number of studies have reported that diet interventions can be an effective strategy for preventing or delaying the onset of dementia in older adults. While the Mediterranean (MedDiet) and the DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) diets have demonstrated cardiovascular benefits in older adults, another reported outcome is a lower risk of Alzheimer ’s disease and cognitive decline. The MedDiet is a cultural-based diet pattern that has been shown to prevent cardiovascular disease, whereas the DASH diet originally was developed to reduce and control blood pressure.
