Murine model for investigating virus-induced exacerbations of COPD-related inflammation - preclinical biomarker validation

Conclusion: A significantly exaggerated inflammatory response was observed in CS-exposed mice additionally receiving poly (I:C). The major cytokines increased in BALF were the same reported from COPD patients with exacerbation. We suggest that our model can be used to reveal novel candidate biomarkers predicting exacerbations as well as also to further investigate mechanisms underlying viral-induced exacerbations.Financial support by the BMBF (FKZ: 13N13862) is gratefully acknowledged.
