Association Between Swallow-Associated Respiratory Arousal and Nocturnal Gastroesophageal Reflux Occurrence in Patients with Coexisting Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
Conclusions: Swallow-associated respiratory arousal appears not to precipitate GER event in patients with coexisting OSA and GERD. Apparently nocturnal swallowing and GER share a common etiology with respiratory arousal. The precise mechanism of respiratory arousal-associated GER remains to be explored.
