Significance of the gross visual appearance of aspirates obtained with endobronchial ultrasound guided-transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA)

Conclusion: The visual appearance of EBUS-TBNA aspirate may provide a clue to the diagnosis. This may prompt the bronchoscopist to obtain samples for ancillary investigations such as Xpert MTB/RIF in cheesy aspirates and avoid further passes from ‘black’ nodes during lung cancer staging.

In conclusion, we have found that a tuberculosis scar is a risk factor of lung cancer, especially adenocarcinoma, and more attention should be paid to close monitoring and follow‐up by clinicians.

Conclusion Patients with lung cancer and pulmonary tuberculosis are predominantly male with smoking history. Adenocarcinoma is the most common pathological type. The positive rate of gene mutation was not significantly different from that of simple lung cancer , but when there were cavities in the chest image, the genetic mutation rate was significantly reduced. Abstract Lung cancer (LC) is the most-deadly type of cancer representing a major public health problem worldwide. Tuberculosis TB is another infectious disease influencing lungs that causes death especially in developing countries. The present study is the first to report antimycobacterial activity of TMC/Ag nanocomposite. It aims to solve the case of lung cancer and its most associative pathogen. The current study reports one pot green biosynthesis of silver nanocomposite in presence of biodegradable biopolymer (N,N,N-trimethyl chitosan chloride, TMC) as both reducing and stabilizing agent. The structure of TMC/A...

Lung carcinoma therapy using epidermal growth factor receptor‑targeted lipid polymeric nanoparticles co‑loaded with cisplatin and doxorubicin. Oncol Rep. 2019 Sep 18;: Authors: Nan Y Abstract The rate of lung cancer in tuberculosis (TB) patients is 7 to 30% higher than that in healthy individuals. Conventional chemotherapy of lung cancer shows limited efficiency due to poor tumor tissue drug accumulation and nonspecific cytotoxicity. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a promising target, which is overexpressed in lung carcinomas. In the present study, EGFR‑targeted nanopart...

Abstract Overexpression of Sonic hedgehog (Shh) is associated with progression of several cancers. The expression of Shh in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been reported with inconsistent results. Lung adenocarcinoma (LAC) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) are two major subtypes of NSCLC, which have different genetic genotypes and clinical therapeutic options. The expression of Shh in specimen of patients with NSCLC has yet to be comprehensively determined according to histological subtypes. Shh expression level was determined in 167 NSCLC patients (56 LAC patients and 111 LSCC patients) by immunohist...

1322Objectives: To examine whether the texture analysis of dual-time-point (DTP) F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG)-PET/CT images can differentiate between 18F-FDG-avid benign and malignant pulmonary lesions. Methods: The enrolled 59 patients underwent DTP 18F-FDG-PET/CT for characterization of a lung nodule. SUV-related (SUVmax and SUVmean), volumetric [metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG)] and texture parameters [entropy, homogeneity, dissimilarity, intensity variability (IV), size-zone variability (SZV) and zone percentage (ZP)] were obtained. The pathological findings were the standards of refe...

Conclusions: 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging can accurately guide the biopsy of lung masses, especially in the cases with pulmonary consolidation. For patients with pulmonary masses and uncertain pathology after bronchoscopy and CT-guided percutaneous lung biopsy, 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging can be used to determine the biopsy site. Key words: 18F-deoxyglucose, PET/CT, pulmonary mass, biopsy

Discussion MDSCs violently emerge in pathological conditions in an attempt to limit potentially harmful immune and inflammatory responses. Mechanisms supporting their expansion and survival are deeply investigated in cancer, in the perspective to reactivate specific antitumor responses and prevent their contribution to disease evolution. These findings will likely contribute to improve the targeting of MDSCs in anticancer immunotherapies, either alone or in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors. New evidence indicates that the expansion of myeloid cell differentiation in pathology is subject to fine-tuning, as its...

In addition to their antimicrobial activities, they possess other functions; e.g., cell activation, proliferation, regulation of cytokine/chemokine production, migration, diffe...

Conclusion The elucidation of the function of circRNAs is an emerging field of science with a tremendous potential after previously being dismissed as RNA artifacts. They are ubiquitously expressed and thousands of members have already been identified. This fact only expands their potential to possibly enhance our knowledge to understand the difference between health and disease. Owing to their structure stability and their presence in exosomes circRNAs may also exert their function in an autocrine, paracrine and possible endocrine fashion. In addition, the fact that circRNAs are widely distributed in the cellular compart...
