ConclusionsResults of this study showed, similarly to recent research, that not all suicide events are the results of psychiatric pathology. Prevention strategies should, therefore, target both socio-economic and clinical risk factors.

Caretta Glioblastoma (GBM) has the worst prognosis among brain tumors, hence basic biology, preclinical, and clinical studies are necessary to design effective strategies to defeat this disease. Gene transfer vectors derived from the most-studied lentivirus—the Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1—have wide application in dissecting GBM specific features to identify potential therapeutic targets. Last-generation lentiviruses (LV), highly improved in safety profile and gene transfer capacity, are also largely employed as delivery systems of therapeutic molecules to be employed in gene therapy (GT) app...

Authors: Rolland-Harris E Abstract Suicide prevention and surveillance are of primary concern to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and to the CAF Health Services (CFHS). Suicide surveillance has been conducted on behalf of the CFHS by the Directorate of Force Health Protection for nearly 30 years. Over time, multiple changes have occurred within CAF: changes in its military role (from a primarily peacekeeping role to one also involving active combat), changes in operational tempo, temporal changes in at-risk subpopulations, as well as increased awareness and concern with suicide and suicide prevention. This has resul...

CONCLUSIONS: Combined efforts in crafting policy for risk identification and communication resulted in a policy that was acceptable and feasible from the perspective of commanders and clinicians. Most Americans think that the United States is exceptional. On most social indicators, however, the U.S.  has relatively low rankings for first world countries. One such social indicator is life expectancy and the United States comes no where close to the top ten countries. There are many reasons for the U.S. low rankings in life expectancy as compared to these other countries. The several that come first to mind are our terrible health care system, our gun policy, our drug problems, infant child mortality, systemic racism, wealth inequality, and our diverse population. The life expectancy in the U.S. hasactually droppe...

AbstractLow social integration is commonly described in acutely suicidal individuals. Neural mechanisms underlying low social integration are poorly understood in depressed and suicidal patients. We sought to characterize the neural response to low social integration in acutely suicidal patients. Adult depressed patients within 3 days of a suicide attempt (n = 10), depressed patients with suicidal ideation (n = 9), non-suicidal depressed patients (n = 15), and healthy controls (N = 18) were administered the Cyberball Game while undergoing functional magnetic resonance...

The Resident (Season 2; Episode 17) Austin’s mentor, Abe, may have been shot in the chest. If he is saved, he may be able to identify who did it (or did he try suicide?). A second patient is Evan, an engineering student initially diagnosed with mono but whose lungs are failing. ECMO is a last ditch effort to try and keep each alive and give their lungs a chance to heal. The hospital has two machines, but only one is available.…
