Postpartum renal cortical necrosis

A 33-year-old woman was admitted in our intensive care unit for an acute kidney injury following a postpartum hemorrhage. She had no medical history, and her pregnancy was uncomplicated. Delivery took place at 39 weeks of gestation and was complicated by a moderate vaginal hemorrhage estimated to 500 ml treated by vaginal packing, 600 ml of frozen-fresh plasma, and 2 g of tranexamic acid. Hemodynamic parameters were not altered during hemorrhage. Computed tomography was performed and found no arterial hemorrhage and non-enhancement of kidney cortical regions after iodinated contrast administration (Figure  1a).
