Obesity a liability in cancer immunotherapy

(Rockefeller University Press) Packing on the pounds may lead to dangerous inflammation in response to anti-cancer treatment. A University of California Davis study shows that overweight mice develop lethal inflammation in response to certain anti-cancer therapies, suggesting a possible link between body weight and adverse side effects.

In this study, we did not observe significant age-dependent upregulation of the prominent SASP cytokine Il6 in any tissue, although an upward trend was observed that was consistent in magnitude with previous observations in the heart and kidney.
