Autism Spectrum Disorder Severity, Developmental Delays, and Overweight/Obese Weight Status

In this volume of The Journal, Levy et al contribute to the emerging reports that children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have disproportionately elevated rates of overweight and obesity in comparison the general population of children in the US.1-3 Although 2 recent large studies yielded consistent results to demonstrate this trend, both studies obtained their sample of children with ASD from the Autism Speaks Autism Treatment Network and their matched control sample of typically developing children from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys.
