Considering Randomness

Randomness, a noun, describes the lack of a pattern or lack of predictability. But the use of the word “random” as an adjective in “randomized controlled trials” (RCTs) seems to fly in the face of what researchers are trying to accomplish in strictly monitoring the progress of a research study. However, randomness is critical when conducting a study designed to demonstrate the superiority of one treatment over another.
