Many studies have indicated a beneficial role of albumin in cirrhotic patients, which extends well beyond its fluid expansion effect. Recently, a randomised multicentre study from Italy, the ANSWER study, suggested widespread beneficial effects of repeated administration of albumin to patients with decompensated cirrhosis, including a reduction in mortality. Sol à et al. performed a randomised placebo-controlled study to evaluate the role of long-term administration of midodrine and albumin to patients with decompensated cirrhosis.
