Role of the Medical Physicist in the Health Care Artificial Intelligence Revolution

A qualified medical physicist (MP) in diagnostic radiology is an expert in the medical application of radiation to form diagnostic images. The MP has extensive knowledge about the regulatory aspects of imaging as well as the theory of image formation and perception. In addition to assessing image quality through routine testing, an MP consults with radiologists and imaging leadership to ensure the optimization of image quality and radiation dose. MPs, especially those who are also active researchers, may possess specific expertise in areas such as informatics, image analysis, advanced mathematics, and statistics.
