Hybrid Model for the Medical Physics Imaging Residency Training

Ever since the ABR, one of the four organizations granting certifications in  diagnostic medical physics in North America, required clinical residency training accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs, activity has increased in the opening of the diagnostic imaging physics residency programs. Currently, most of the programs are bas ed in the hospital or university setting, and a few are among the private consulting groups. Even though the two models have been successful in providing the required clinical residency training for diagnostic medical physicists, the number of imaging physics residencies are still relatively less c ompared with radiation therapy physics residency programs.
