Malignant ascites occurs most often in patients with high-grade serous papillary ovarian cancer at initial diagnosis: a retrospective analysis of 191 women treated at Bayreuth Hospital, 2006 –2015

ConclusionsHigh-grade serous papillary ovarian cancer was the main histological subtype most frequently found in ascites fluid in this series. The significant difference (P

CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report of the use of lenvatinib for the treatment of distant metastases from CMV-PTC. In addition to the efficacy in treating metastatic lesions of this rare variant of PTC, lenvatinib shows promise in the management of associated FAP. This treatment strategy may be useful in the management of recurrent CMV-PTC and in those with FAP who refuse colectomy. PMID: 31317827 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion: The majority of children with RB in Uganda present clinically with leucokoria, and their parents or guardians seek medical intervention at a later stage. Moreover, there was a noticeably significant lag period for the patients to begin treatment after the diagnosis was done. PMID: 31316824 [PubMed]

Authors: Lorenzo-González M, Torres-Durán M, Barbosa-Lorenzo R, Provencio-Pulla M, Barros-Dios JM, Ruano-Ravina A Abstract Introduction: Lung cancer is the most important cause of cancer mortality. It is a multifactorial disease with multiple risk factors, including residential radon exposure. Areas covered: The aim of this paper was to review the epidemiology of residential radon exposure and its impact on lung cancer risk. While tobacco is the main risk factor of lung cancer, residential radon is the first cause in never-smokers and the second in ever-smokers. Moreover, the synergistic effect betwee...

Authors: Grossmann M, Ramchand SK, Milat F, Vincent A, Lim E, Kotowicz MA, Hicks J, Teede HJ Abstract INTRODUCTION: Representatives appointed by relevant Australian medical societies used a systematic approach for adaptation of guidelines (ADAPTE) to formulate clinical consensus recommendations on assessment and management of bone health in women with oestrogen receptor-positive early breast cancer receiving endocrine therapy. The current evidence suggests that women receiving adjuvant aromatase inhibitors and pre-menopausal woman treated with tamoxifen have accelerated bone loss and that women receiving adjuvant a...

NałęczAbstractPlasma membrane transporter SLC6A14 transports all neutral and basic amino acids in a Na/Cl – dependent way and it is up-regulated in many types of cancer. Mass spectrometry analysis of overexpressed SLC6A14–associated proteins identified, among others, the presence of cytosolic heat shock proteins (HSPs) and co-chaperones. We detected co-localization of overexpressed and native SLC6A14 with HSP90-beta and HSP70 (HS...

In this study, we investigated the effects of stress on immunosurveillance against cancer cells using a previously established examination stress model. We showed that the cancer killing activity (CKA) of granulocytes (also known as polymorphic nuclear cells, PMNs) is sharply reduced during examination stress stimulation in some donors who are psychologically sensitive to examination stress, with the concentration of plasma stress hormones (cortisone, epinephrine, and norepinephrine) increasing accordingly. The effects of stress hormones on immune cell CKA were also investigated under two in vitro co-incubation conditions,...

CD123 aptamers may potentially serve as tumor-homing ligands with excellent affinity and specificity for AML targeted therapy, but their complexity, laborious preparation and nuclease digestion limited pharmacological application. The aim of this study was to develop the first CD123 thioaptamer to overcome these obstacles.Main methodsFlow cytometr...

Mussatto, Harit JhaAbstractThe present study uncovers the in-vitro cytotoxicity, sensing properties, catalytic and antibacterial activity of lignin functionalized silver nanoparticles (AGNPs). Fabricated AGNPs were characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy, particle size, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopic (TEM) analyses. The typical surface plasmon resonance peak of AGNP was recorded at 410 nm, as confirmed from UV-visible spectrum. Synt...
