Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a public health problem. It is characterized by pain in the jaw joint, face, and masticatory muscles and can become chronic. Although the hallmarks of TMD, as a regional pain disorder, are pain in the temporomandibular joints and masticatory muscles, people with TMD often experience pain in many other areas of the body.44
