Simultaneous Pancreas-Kidney Transplant After Bricker Loop Urinary Diversion: A Case Report.

Simultaneous Pancreas-Kidney Transplant After Bricker Loop Urinary Diversion: A Case Report. Exp Clin Transplant. 2018 Nov 06;: Authors: Kovács DÁ, Braat AE, Huurman VAL, Baranski AG Abstract Simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplant is the ultimate therapy for patients who have uncontrolled and complicated type 1 diabetes mellitus with end-stage renal disease. The combined pancreas transplant provides a euglycemic milieu for the kidney and protects it from recurrence of diabetic complications. Our patient, a 41-year-old woman with end-stage diabetic nephropathy and history of multiple abdominal surgeries (ovarian cyst fenestration, adnexal extirpation, abdominal wall reconstruction), including urinary diversion (Bricker loop, above double J stent), underwent simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplant. After reperfusion, the kidney had immediate function and creatinine levels dropped to normal levels during the early postoperative period (creatinine of 102 μmol/L, estimated glomerular filtration rate of 52 mL/min/1.73 m2) and remained stable during follow-up. Serum glucose levels dropped to within normal ranges postoperatively and remained so during follow-up. The postoperative course was complicated by hydronephrosis due to transient edema of the anastomosis of the ureter to the Bricker loop, after early incidental removal of the double J catheter. This was successfully treated with a temporary percutaneous nephrostomy. Multiple previous sur...

Therefore, no standard anti-tumor drug therapy has been established for fibrosarcoma. Although pristimerin (PM) has been reported to exert an anti-tumor effect on various types of cancer, no studies have examined the therapeutic effect of PM on soft tissue sarcoma. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the anti-tumor effect of PM on human fibrosarcoma cells (HT1080). The present study examined the cell viability, IC50 val...

This study aimed to evaluate the growth and differentiation potential of DPCs cultured inside demineralized dentin tubules in vivo. Six green fluorescent protein (GFP)-transgenic rats (body weight 100 g each) and thirty-two Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats (body weight 250 g each) were used for DPC collection and dentin tubules preparation and transplantation, respectively. Third-passage DPCs with or without collagen gels were loaded into demineralized dentin tubules. Both types of grafts were transplanted into the rectus abdominis muscles of SD rats and were harvested after 21 days. The expression of alkaline phosphatase (AL...

Authors: Choi JH, Noh JR, Kim YH, Kim JH, Kang EJ, Choi DH, Choi JH, An JP, Oh WK, Lee CH Abstract Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to a serious extent. It is a chronic disease that can lead to dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. In the present study, we investigated the anti-obesity effects of Sicyos angulatus (SA) extract on a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced C57BL/6J obese mice. The mice were divided into vehicle and three SA groups (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg body weight). The mice were fed a HFD with or without SA for 12 weeks. The oral administration of SA reduc...

We present an up-to-date systematic review of the current literature regarding the safety in artificial and natural sweeteners use as a means of weight loss or diabetes control.Expert opinion: Natural sweeteners have not been associated directly with NAFLD, and on the contrary, some, such as stevia, and trehalose, may have a protective effect. Rare sugars and polyols can be used safely and have significant benefits that include anti-oxidant effect and optimal glycemic control. Artificial sweeteners, due to their effect on NAFLD development and insulin resistance, are not indicated in patients with obesity or diabetes. Furt...
