Judge: Chevron Motion For Sanctions 'Moot' In Light Of Notarized Transfer Document

NEW YORK - A federal judge in New York on Oct. 12 declared as "moot" a motion by Chevron Corp., which sought to impose sanctions and possible imprisonment on the attorney who won an $18.5 billion judgment against the company in a court in Ecuador for injuries, only to have it reversed. The judge ruled that the attorney satisfied the district court's orders, albeit belatedly (Chevron Corporation v. Steven Donziger, No. 11-691, S.D. N.Y.).
