Chevron's Contempt Motion Should Be Rejected, Sanctions Proper, Donziger Says

NEW YORK - Steven R. Donziger, the attorney who won an $18.5 billion judgment against Chevron Corp. in a court in Ecuador for injuries only to have it reversed, filed a brief in New York federal court on Oct. 31, contending that the court should reject the company's motion to hold him in contempt, impose costs and "warn Chevron's counsel that further efforts so explicitly aimed at unconstitutionally chilling corporate accountability advocates generally and Chevron critics specifically" will be met with sanctions (Chevron Corporation v. Steven Donziger, No. 11-691, S.D. N.Y.).
