CONCLUSIONS: NIID is a rare neurodegenerative disorder usually diagnosed postmortem. The rectal and skin biopsy had proved helpful in antemortem diagnosis. We have increased the diagnostic armamentarium by showing the presence of intranuclear inclusions in smooth muscle cells of the muscle.
