Elusive adenomyosis: a plea for an international classification system to allow artificial intelligence approaches to reset our clinical management

Adenomyosis may be more elusive than ever! In the wake of technological progress, the definition and the clinical burden associated with adenomyosis have dramatically changed over the last 20  years. We went from a disease with a diagnosis based on hysterectomy specimens from patients in their 40s who were undergoing surgery for severe uterine bleeding, to a disease diagnosed via transvaginal ultrasound and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (1–4). As these technologies continue to i mprove with each passing year, 5 years from now our clinical decisions will likely be based on different criteria.
