AcelRx Pharmaceuticals Inc. won its first Food and Drug Administration approval Friday of a restricted-use opioid delivery system, but the nation's top drug regulator issued an atypical statement to assuage concerns about another highly addictive painkiller hitting the market.
Redwood City-based AcelRx's (NASDAQ: ACRX) Dsuvia is a single tablet of the opioid sufentanil, pre-packaged inside a three-inch plastic applicator that lets medical staff deliver the drug under the tongue.
