Risk Factors and Predictors of Hypoglycemia after Bariatric Surgery in the LABS Consortium

Background: Hypoglycemia is increasingly recognized as a bariatric surgery complication, and can be severe and disabling in some patients. Identification of risk factors and predictors of hypoglycemia, both before and after bariatric surgery, would allow insight into this potentially dangerous complication and guide preoperative identification of high-risk individuals. Methods: 1,959 participants who underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB, n=1,448) or adjustable gastric banding (AGB, n=511) from the Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (LABS) consortium were included.
