Striking Decrease in Insulin Requirement for Type I Diabetes after Roux en Y Gastric Bypass
Background: Roux en Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) is an effective treatment for obesity and its related metabolic profile. It is known to improve hypertension, hypercholestrolemia, Type II diabetes (T2D), and few report improvement in Type I Diabetes (T1D). This is interesting as the pathophysiology of development and treatement of T1D is different than T2D, with the former being an autoimmune disease and latter being a disease of obesity. Here we present case of a 38 year old patient with T1D who is needing minimal amount of insulin 3 months post RYGB.
