While evidence highlighting the numerous negative health effects of obesity and in particular severe obesity, on the general population continue to mount [1], recent data from the U.S. continue to focus on the accelerated rates of obesity among the pediatric population [2]. Furthermore, previous assertions that several age-specific pediatric sub-groups may be experiencing a relative stabilization and/or a decline in current rates of obesity have recently been brought into question [2].
