Classification of burn injury using Raman spectroscopy and optical coherence tomography: An ex-vivo study on porcine skin

Burn injuries are a major cause of death in the United States [1]. Every year, nearly 450,000 patients receive hospital and emergency room treatment for burns, of which, approximately 3400 burn injury deaths are reported [2]. Early decision on treatments has shown to shorten stay in hospitals and reduce infection [3,4]. Accurate assessment and in-time treatment can greatly reduce morbidity and mortality due to burn injuries.
