This study aimed to investigate the anti-obesity effects of ginseng and the alternation of gut microbiota composition in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity. The results showed that HFD treatment influenced body weight gain, adipose tissue accumulation and biochemical parameter changes. Compared to the HFD group, ginseng supplementation of HFD-fed mice decreased body weight, adipose tissue mass, total cholesterol (T-CHO) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL)/low-density lipoprotein (LDL) ratio. To analysis the alterations of gut microbiota, ginseng in dietary supplements decreased Firmicutes abundance and increased Bacteroide...

The present study examined influences of dietary fat levels (10% vs. 45% fat), presentation order of dried bonito dashi (ascending vs. descending concentrations), and prior experience with dashi on subsequent dashi intake and preference using two-bottle choice tests in two rodent strains, Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and C57BL/6 N (B6N) mice. In the ascending concentration...

We examined US sensitivity for diagnosis of HCC in obese patients. Methods: Liver transplant patients data with HCC in explant was used (January 2012-December 2017). All patients underwent liver US within 3 months of diagnosis of HCC. Number/size of HCC lesions were extracted from radiologic and pathologic reports. Obesity was defined as BMI ≥30 kg/m2. Results: One hundred sixteen patients were included. 80% were male, with mean BMI of 31 kg/m2. The most common underlying liver disease was hepatitis C virus (62%). At the time of diagnosis, median number of HCC lesions was 2 (interquartile range [IQR], 1-3), and ...

In order to evaluate the role of LP104 in improving hyperlipidemia in high-fat-diet mice, C57BL/6N mice were randomly assigned into three groups treated with different diets: normal chow (Control), HFD, and HFD with L. plantarum LP104. After eight weeks, L. plantarum LP104 treatment significantly reduced HFD-induced body weight gain and the lev...

Herein, we prepare a conductive polypyrrole-graphene oxide/polypyrrole-camphorsulfonic acid bilayer composite coating (PPY-GO/PPY-CSA) on 304 stainless steel bipolar plate by electrodeposition method. The electrochemical tests are conducted in ...

In this study, a novel rotating bipolar disc electrolytic (RBDE) reactor was designed for the treatment of textile wastewater and the performance was evaluated. The turbulence created in the system and enhanced mass transport (coagulants/ions) improved the overall performance of electrolytic cell during rotation. The effect of various parameters like current density, electrical conductivity, pH, rotation speed, and pollutant concentration on the performance of the RBDE reactor was examined in terms of COD, colour and TSS removal. Complete decolorization was obtained in 2 min and 6 min of electrolysis time in ...

AbstractGlycogenic hepatopathy (GH) is an underdiagnosed complication of uncontrolled type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). It appears as an acute relapsing hepatitis with reversible transaminase elevations secondary to excessive hepatic glycogen accumulation. Patients are often asymptomatic but can present with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Physical examination shows hepatomegaly without splenomegaly. GH is diagnosed by biopsy as it is clinically indistinguishable from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a more common cause of hepatic dysfunction in diabetics. Here we describe a case of GH in a patient with uncon...

Abstract The newer atypical antipsychotic agents (AAPs) represent an attractive therapeutic option for a wide range of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and bipolar mania, because of the reduced risk of disabling extrapyramidal symptoms. However, their growing use has raised questions about their tolerability over the endocrine, metabolic, and cardiovascular axes. Indeed, atypical antipsychotic drugs are associated, to differing extents, with mild elevation of aminotransferases related to weight gain, AAP-induced metabolic syndrome, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Although the hepatic safety of new AAPs s...
