Salivary Uric Acid: Associations with Resting and Reactive Blood Pressure Response To Social Evaluative Stress in Healthy African Americans
In the United States, cardiovascular disease (CVD) disproportionately burdens African Americans (Association A.H., 2013). In addition to socioeconomic variables such as education and poverty and decreased access to preventive care, psychosocial variables, such as discrimination, are viewed as key determinants of CVD disparities (Adler, 2013; Ladwig et al., 2014). One particularly important precursor to CVD and disparity is psychobiological stress (Dimsdale, 2008). In tandem, African Americans have higher rates of many stress-related CVD risk factors (Blankstein et al., 2011; Flegal et al., 2010).
